About The Artist
Piyali Sen Dasgupta was born in Tonganagaon Tea Estate, Assam,India in 1953. Piyali received her schooling and education in Fine Arts fromVishwa Bharati , Santiniketan, India. In 1980 she traveled to Houston, Texas with her family.
She became interested in showing her artwork for first time while living in Midland, Michigan. Piyali worked with Midland Center For The Arts as a volunteer and participated in Midland Arts Council’s Annual Juried Show in 1984. Presently Piyali lives in Houston and works from her studio in Winter Street Studio.
The Golden Cat Silk Company:
In 2007 Piyali developed a small portfolio of original designs in wood block prints on textile. Limited edition of prints had been created on silk and raw silk since then. She collaborated with Indian wood block printers from west Bengal, India. Her work is shown publicly from studio A6, Winter Street Studio, Houston.
Piyali believes her journey to America has enriched her with a greater humanity and universalism. Vegetation experienced from very early childhood gravitated her towards a visual language wholesome and organic in nature.
